In the world of bike saddles, Selle Repente may not be one of most well-known brands, but with the recent launch of their Artax GL saddle, they are specifically targeting the gravel market.
The 165g saddle is constructed from a mix of carbon fibre (rails and sub-structure) with a lightweight EVA foam padding and a water-based microfibre cover. The shape has been anatomically designed, with a long central channel designed to remove pressure from the perineal area.
Selle Repente describe the saddle as “a lightweight and comfortable saddle, designed with both male and female users in mind. The shaping of the support in the rear part of the saddle is designed to minimise high pressure points on the ischial bones.”
From a gravelly point of view, the EVA padding is described as “a reactive and extremely light material - it has been made thicker in the most delicate support points to maximise comfort even on bumpy terrain.” In an unusual twist, the saddle cover is removable using their proprietary Repente Locking System (RLS) which would allow it to be replaced in the event of crash damage.
The saddle is available in two colours – Black Mud and Red Mud – both very appropriate for autumn/winter gravel bike riding!
