General News: Doorstep Challenge competition – We have a winner!

Back in May we ran the inaugural version of the Gravel Union Doorstep Challenge, in association with Canyon, and powered by Shimano GRX and komoot. We had an unbelievable amount of interest, with nearly 7000 of you registering for the event, from as far afield as California, East Java (Indonesia) and the west coast of Australia.
As part of the Doorstep Challenge, we ran a photographic competition, where we awarded spot prizes for creativity, style and humour among other things, to participants who submitted images taken during their ride. You can see all the spot prize winners here. The spot prizes, which were provided by Canyon, komoot and Gravel Union, are on their way to the winners.
The headline prize for the event was a newly launched Canyon Grizl CF SL 6. We initially started to go through the successful entries to the event manually, but soon realised we would have all reached old age before we had successfully approved all your rides! So, we called on the help of the tech wizards at komoot and they used some impressive computer power to go through each entry that we received, to make sure they complied with the rules.
We had asked you to log your completed ride on komoot, to find 6 out of a possible 9 items from our gravel brevet card, to tag Gravel Union into your ride and finally to add the hashtag #GravelUnionDoorstepChallenge. From the original 7000 entrants, komoot helped us to randomly select 25 finalists and then we put all their names into a GravelUnion hat and pulled out the overall winner.
So, without further ado, we’d like to announce the grand prize winner is Lydia Steininger from Austria.
Lydia will be growing her fleet of Canyon bikes, as with total coincidence (and we promise we didn’t know this when we pulled her name out of the hat), she already rides a Canyon bike! We hope she will be very happy with her new Canyon Grizl, which will be on its way to her later this week.
We would like to say a huge thank you to our lovely supporters, Canyon Bikes, Shimano GRX and komoot, without whom we couldn’t have run this event, but most importantly, thanks to everyone who entered. We absolutely loved looking through your photos, stories, messages and rides – the uplifting and positive feedback that we received made all the work worthwhile.
We’re already working on our next competition and will be launching it on the Gravel Union site, as soon as we’ve everything finalised and ready to go – watch this space for more details.
