Ride Report: Flo’s Border Dash

Posted By Gravel Union On 30 July 2020

Shimano Gravel Alliance rider Flo Nowak sent us in this photo essay of his first post-lockdown gravel ride to the Austrian/German border region. It would be fair to say we are *quite* jealous of his local riding!

The day has arrived – the borders are open again! I’m sure everybody has been suffering during the lockdown. I was super happy to have the opportunity to ride outside of my local area, but for me living in the Bavarian Alps and close to the Austrian border it appeared challenging because I was pretty limited to my Germany-only routes.

On the Friday the borders opened I was ready for my Border Dash. I took my gravel bike out for a long 100km ride through the most beautiful scenery in my area over the Austrian/German border with lots of climbing, fun trails and awesome views.

If you would like to retrace Flo’s route, you can check out the details here:

Florian 'Flo' Nowak

What would you do if you flew to the other side of the world to take part in a gravel event and your bike didn’t make it onto the flight with you? You could rant and rave at the airline. You could cross your fingers and hope it turns up in time. Or you could use the power of the gravel community to help get you back on the trail again. Shimano Gravel Alliance rider Florian Nowak had exactly this problem recently and, of course, the gravel riding community helped to save the day.
